My friend is now a believer. 

I blame our cell phones and the GPS function for people not knowing where
they are. We've lost the brain cells which generate that need to know our
surroundings since the integration of cell phones into our lives. Brain
atrophy is a real thing...Read Greg Milner's "Pinpoint".

...when traveling, people should at least pay attention to the name of the
county they're in. Especially if staying there for any extended period like
at a motel, overnight. When you check in, just ask at the desk. Or ask in
the airport after you land. All too many people expect the government to do
100% of the heavy lifting to save them from disaster. Good luck with that!
