Some of you may not like my response, but when traveling, people should at least pay attention to the name of the county they're in. Especially if staying there for any extended period like at a motel, overnight. When you check in, just ask at the desk. Or ask in the airport after you land.
All too many people expect the government to do 100% of the heavy lifting to save them from disaster. Good luck with that! People need to take on at least a modicum of responsibility for their own safety. Knowing where you are before bad weather (or other dangerous situations) arise, will go a long way towards one's own self preservation.
