Following up...
I did a little look at the SAGE manual RE: technically getting out of an EAN. I haven't found where you can do that? Did I miss something elsewhere, or did I read it wrong? Also, what is the status of the EAT? Is that still used to end an EAN? Does sending an EOM after aborting an EAN (if it can be aborted) clear the downstream boxes? Or does that still require an EAT, which as an S.R. we are not authorized to send? I hate when someone creates a situation that causes questions to be asked that you never thought would ever need to be asked!
This from the SAGE Blue Box manual explaining the ABORT button:
"Abort the operation in progress. This can be either a menu item or an active alert. Note that the ENDEC will always send the End of Message data, even if an alert is aborted. This will keep you from locking up stations downstream until they time out. Relayed_EAN_messages_cannot_be_aborted."

If you only have two ducks, they will always all be in a row.
