[EAS] Sources and RWT's

I'll second that motion Clay. These tests don't have to be as disruptive as they are.
In fact I'll call your 3 am RWT and raise you a 3 am RMT... EVERY MONTH!

At one time it might have made a difference that these things happened when people were around to be involved. Most everyone is on autopilot these days, and then when a special test comes along, we as a community get ourselves all worked up over it to the point of being a part of what may have gone wrong.
A test is a test regardless of the time of day.

Well OK, there are AM stations, sorry to leave you out.
It seems AM is falling out of favor for EAS monitoring so why worry when the tests happen?
At least the daytime only AM boxes can receive and "dead-air"send the alerts.
"It's in the log. Looks like it all worked fine here." If my transmitter had been on, someone might have heard it, fewer might have cared. And the FM/TV gang might also be happier to test in the middle of the night.

In all of this whoopla over how things went, what are the percentages of stations that were on the air to relay the test regardless of how it all went down? I imagine it was pretty high. We all bust hump to put out RF. Just look how crazy it gets when we don't. EAS... not so much.

The transmission systems are the least fragile and problematic part of the so called "daisy chain."
Most of the reports I've heard/seen were about what happened at the sources or during relays. Not much chatter about transmitter problems contributing to any of the excitement. So who cares when the tests happen? Let's let them be as nondisruptive as possible.

I'd be thrilled if these sources would send RWT's at 3AM on Sunday
Morning....Or some other time that they feel would be least disruptive to
their business model.

Seems to me that their request was based on the - then - fact that no one
was monitoring them for EAS purposes.
Perhaps the Commish, in light of what's happened and our reliance on these
satellite sources would re-consider?
