[EAS] List of EAS State Plans

Adrienne,

I do understand that SECCs are often unfunded and that is why they may need to piggyback on some other website.
I'm sure those SECCs are grateful to the state broadcast associations or SBE groups for letting them tag along.
However, if a state plan has any web presence at all, doesn't it make more sense if the link on the FCC website points directly to that plan?

I have heard, that in Nebraska for instance, some of the recurring costs are being paid for out of pocket by members of the SECC.
They consider it a donation and are happy to do it, which is noble on their part.
However, it speaks to the frailty of a warning system that often operates only upon the goodwill of individuals who contribute money or time.

I had never really intended to delve into some of the things that have been brought up as a result of my simple posting of a State Plan list.
But the further this goes, the more apparent it is to me how much of a house of cards EAS really is and how easy it would be to make even some of these little things better and benefit all.

I know there are a lot of good people out there who are trying to keep something working. It is not the fed, nor is it states, counties, cities that that are making EAS happen. It is dedicated individuals like yourself, who are the driving force behind our warning systems. You and others like you deserve more recognition than you get. Not for the sake of the recognition itself but so that the government entities and the public can begin to understand how fragile and dependent our warning systems are.

If it is so important to have a website that lists state EAS plans then the FCC should host a site where those plans can reside rather than relying on the caring individuals to dig in the sofa cushions for pocket change to support this. If it's not important then just take down the webpage that includes the semi-useless list that I found. A station or cable operator should not have to go to all the trouble that I found, just to be sure they are compliant with the currently suggested monitoring assignments.
