Clay,

And just so folks are aware... on a related topic... this spring some of us were able to persuade the cellular industry standards group that they should stop requiring SAME event codes on incoming WEA messages... as the new Public Safety category for WEA basically eliminates any need to filter messages based on their purported content.

It'll take some time and a bit of work at FEMA to make that happen, but I think it will greatly simplify WEA maintenance down the road (like every time a new code gets created.) And hopefully it will help folks to think outside the SAME box a bit more often.

BTW... If we want to imagine how Weather Radio might work in a post-SAME world, we need only look at EMWIN. Those weather datacasts for emergency managers have migrated to the new GOES-R satellite... and NOAA has set aside a set of VHF frequencies for use nationwide by locals for terrestrial rebroadcast of EMWIN data, imagery, and alerts. Just all kinds of food for thought in there!

While we are at it -

Let's work to change the way NWS communicates information to broadcasters.
The SAME based system should be phased out.
With an all data system broadcasters would be able to determine just what ,
how much and how often. Would be a step ahead for TV and for Radio let
the Text Readers read what the broadcasters choose.

This would eliminate the message flooding mess once and for all.

Yes, I know that Hazcollect is supposed to resolve all pending issues....(Uh
Huh)
