That is true here as well. My title is officially "Assistant Chief Technologist", and our department head is "VP of Technology". But I still call myself "Assistant Chief Engineer" because everyone in the industry recognizes that title. (I am also backup Chief Operator, but the master control supervisor is the lead Chief Operator.)
