And then there is this...
I am engineering for the station.
I am not the Chief Engineer, that's my boss.
I am also the Chief Operator.
Want to guess how many times a year someone refers to me using my bosses title... in front of my boss?
I think CHIEF was a poor choice of words.
STATION Operator or something along those lines may have served just as well and led to a lot less confusion.
If I had gone from engineer to Chief Engineer, I would have gotten a raise to go along with the extra responsibilities.
As is, I took on a whole lot of new responsibility under "other duties as assigned".
Even a small increase in salary for that in 1981, when all stations were required to have a DCO and when I became it, would have been a lot more money now with the annual percentage salary increase.
