Maybe I've missed something here but it seems to me that the danger to
residents of Fire Island was not "imminent" or "immediate", usually one of
the requirements for an EAS activation. Yes, it would take time to get
people evacuated from the island but really, was an EAS activation that
blanketed the entire north half of Long Island and beyond necessary? It
seems to me that a knowledgeable PIO with a good media distribution list and
a thorough grip on Social Media tools would have been more effective than an
EAS activation.
