I disagree Adrienne as Emergency Managers we need to pass the information as soon as it is relevant and we need to share it evenly across all of the broadcast markets. To be fair they may not choose to broadcast our message but any station with a sense of community will. Those who didn't will see their market share moving to the completion.......
Those outside of the primary warned area need to know they will have company showing up at the dinner table.......

Maybe I've missed something here but it seems to me that the danger to residents of Fire Island was not "imminent" or "immediate", usually one of the requirements for an EAS activation. Yes, it would take time to get people evacuated from the island but really, was an EAS activation that blanketed the entire north half of Long Island and beyond necessary? It seems to me that a knowledgeable PIO with a good media distribution list and a thorough grip on Social Media tools would have been more effective than an EAS activation.
