I seriously doubt "they" would bother tripping the EA System for an extinction level event. What would be the point? The EA System is good when the word must be spread NOW! TOR's, and CAE's are a great examples. We do not generally use the EA Systems for slowly approaching events. Yeah, HUW is in there, but who forwards that? Sending a HUW would be a Duh! moment in broadcast. Chances are the world, or most of it, would already know the end was actually coming. Even if governments tried to cover it up, amateurs in 'that science' (whatever was about to occur) would get the word out. And, anyway, what would that last alert audio and text be "Th-th-th-th-that's all folks!" - Porky Pig
Silliness aside, anything on an extinction level event would be of interest to the world, and not just the US. Look at all the trouble we have in the US figuring this thing out. Now imagine trying to scale it up the world stage. Technically, no doubt, the engineers could figure out how it could be done, but governments would need to learn to play in each other's sand boxes. Yeah, right.
