[EAS] EAS: Pinging remote computers

Greetings:

I have had a few email exchanges about EAS IP reliability checking with John Collinson, a former colleague from my days on the Primary Entry Point Advisory Committee Board, about this:

>From John:

> I'm thinking about something that runs continuously on the remote computer and every 30 seconds, minute, whatever, determines if the IP connection is alive and keeps a log of that. Would be even better if it flagged times when the network was down so they could be spotted easily.

As we know, some EAS boxes can report on IPAWS OPEN polling status, but John asked me if I know of an application that could run at a remote site, do "ping" logging and, if the connection is up, send emails.

I use Logmein Pro to do this at two remote sites but the Pro version of Logmein is not free. The big advantage I derive from Logmein Pro is that the pinging is initiated toward the site in question and sends emails when the site cannot be pinged for a set period time.

I came up with a free program, Autoping", that runs on the remote computer, but obviously cannot email you if the IP connection goes down. Wondering if anyone has used Autoping, or has come up with a reliable free app. that can periodically ping a remote computer, log those pings, and send you an email if the connection cannot be pinged for a set period of time.
