Last I checked, NWS does in fact have a CAP server. But, when I
experimented with it, I found the following issues:
* They carry more alerts of a given event type than the local NWR
transmitter does. Not necessarily a problem, but potentially
confusing and presumably the local office had a reason for not
forwarding them to their transmitter
* More significantly... and quite odd in my mind given NWR's
experience... the CAP server feed was NOT text-to-speech friendly.
Symbols, abbreviations, etc. And they didn't supply audio files, so
you had no choice but to do text-to-speech. So... OK to use as an
RSS feed to your Outlook, but not so good for your EAS box.
If you want to play... try the following:
* Configure your box as appropriate for atom feeds. That is easy on
DASDEC or, in my limited experience, the GR boxes. SAGE seems to
make things less generic and more server specific, so I don't know
which server option you would chose.
* Point the URL at: http://www.weather.gov/alerts/vt.atom (for
Vermont alerts... ny.atom for New York)
