The officer that was shot and since passed away is a cousin to our national program assistant here at Moody Radio in Chicago.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and 4 children.

I do agree why the eas alert?

While the California EAS Plan does not include EAS activations for "Blue"
alerts, if law enforcement officials think an EAS activation is warranted in
the interests of Public Safety, there are already appropriate Event Codes
built into EAS. If needed, the Event Codes CEM or Civil Emergency Message,
LEW, or Law Enforcement Warning could have been used. In Tuesday's
situation, there was no need for any alert or activation even though a CHP
officer was shot without warning during a routine traffic stop because a
second officer shot the suspect at the scene. There was no threat to the
public. Both the suspect and the injured officer later died. My question
would be who requested the activation and why.

Our Sacramento radio station received a "Blue Alert" issued by NWS at the
request of the CHP on Tuesday at 10:47AM. It was sent as a "Child Abduction
Emergency," but the recorded message identified it as a "Blue Alert." Our
San Francisco station did not receive the alert. As far as I know the
California state plan does not include Blue Alerts. I had the operator kill
the alert before it automatically aired. The LP1 and LP2 stations both
carried the alert.
I'm not sure I have a question here. I just feel the system operates by
different rules, at different times, in different counties and that leads to
confusion on the part of our operators.
