They will oppose it when they find out how much it will cost them.
Especially if they FCC really wants a separate stream for the emergency
audio. The people that set these policies are often out of touch of what
real 'wires and code' are needed to make this stuff work.
Every GM should be required to pull cables under a computer floor,
configure a video server or automation, and change a tube on Christmas
eve before they can become GM.
And not much has been said about the consumer devices part of the
mandate. Look how long it took to get DTV-capable sets on store shelves.
Now, they are mandating more changes to consumer equipment, that are
fairly far-reaching. And proposing it on a very short timetable. They
will be an even biiger pushback than broadcastere.
It is time we fight this bad legislation, rather than just try to live
with it. That is the only way we are ever going to stop this wave of
regulatory excessivism that is sweeping every corner of our existance.

Adrienne Abbot writes,
That's not going to happen. NAB is not going to come out in opposition
to a service for the blind. This law wasn't passed in a vacuum and when
it was proposed, I can remember the comments in the newsroom about "TV
for the blind" and "wasn't that what radio was for?" Opposing this law
now would be a losing proposition.
