I don't like 66s because of the real estate they consume and the exposed contacts. That said, if they are already there I would trust them in your hands ( or Kevin's) but there are people out there who can quickly turn them into a full fledged disaster. 

Regarding versatility, either BIX or 110 blocks can be punched with terminations, attenuators and are easily monoed. I think the available test clips provide a superior test and measurement capability. When properly structured there is never a need to double punch wires.

I would call 66 block alternatives new. As I said, I switched to BIX 35 years ago.
