Good input. Much appreciated! So for anyone following along at
home... we did manage to get both of the old camera control cables out.
There was no pushing or jiggling as the cable is of the "super flex"
variety and the conduit is buried in the floor.
However, using a floor jack as muscle and a couple of cuts of wood as a
fulcrum & lever, we were able to coax the cables out, 4 inches at a
time. Then lower the jack and repeat. It was a slow process but after
getting the first 20 feet out, the rest pulled through with relative ease.
My concern was that the cables would be braided together with the
variety of other cables that have been added to the pipe in the last 20
years, and that would lead to possibly snapping the cable mid-pipe, or
worse, damaging something else in the pipe. In the end I was out-voted
2-1 and it turns out my fears were unfounded.
Our methods were unconventional, but worked out for the best. And now
we even have 4 runs of Cat-6 in the pipe as well as 2 pullstrings for
future use. Success!
Thanks to everyone for the input!
