Hi Everyone,
Comrex has done a bang up job on the BRIC and Access units. A show we pulled from Sacramento was using the Access and BRIC units and no issues at all. I would say we had maybe, and that's a maybe, one very minor audio blip a day but to the average listener, it would not be noticed. Of course, us Engineers listen to radio with a whole different ear so we would pick up on it. The show was five hours a day, and really cut down the ISDN costs per month...from $2000 a month to nearly $140 a month...the cost of the Internet access. Heck what can you ask for using the Internet and having great success. Since then, the show has moved to satellite to accommodate more affiliates.
On another note, I run a mix of Access and BRICS to my transmitter sites and have had great success. My AM requires a T-1 circuit and I run the audio Linear PCM since I have the bandwidth to do it. I also run PCM to my FM sites as a backup to my STL and T-1 methods. As Rick said, there are a ton of codecs to choose from and the AAC codecs are great, for what we do. We are just getting into the SIP side of the units, along with the Comrex ARC for the Android. VIPQC is not available yet for the iPhone so the Droid will work.
We have used the Barix boxes and have several lockups on those units. We have a subcarrier client that uses the Barix and it is usually a trip every two weeks to the transmitter site to reset the box. We tried the box at the office and still had the same issue. Contacted Barix and we are trying some other solutions which is a good sign of customer service to help troubleshoot an issue instead of burring the head in the sand.
