On the Facebook page is the video of the killer loose barge that cut off power to St. George Island cut thru the old bridge fishing pier like butter.
All the photos, evacuation anouncements closures local closures. Safely guiding visitors out and directing locals to resources.
One of the greatest community news director over last 20 years.
Years ago Micheal rode out the hurricane in a suzuki samuri. Since the transmitter was on an inverter powered by the vehicle local brave souls were bringing gas and food to keep Mike, the transmitter and his cellphone doing blow by blow on NPR.
Michael Allen and WOYS are the definition of local radio. This year with the internet and Mike ducking out between blinding rain bands.
With the camera it's all here.
Both stations WOCY and WOYS were all hands on deck.
Michael stayed behind from family vacation and the longest airshift yet 48hrs. Live then 5 hours later another marathon.
Thank you Michael you deserve every comment on the Facebook page and this year coverage was truly global.
It occurs to me that some people live to serve the community and this guy and the staff of 3g do it.
Let's hope they miss but if it gets tough the community knows the as long as the tower stays we stay. And yes .....We still have jumper cables but now it's a Durango parked onsite.
After seeing how many depend on Michael it inspires me and reminds me of the necessity of local radio.
Enjoy oyster radio after dark on the stream. And if anyone would like to know how we are doing and see some great video.
