"WSM-AM has held on to the Grand Ole Opry, and it will never in our
lifetime leave WSM-AM. The country music artist are making sure
Gaylord keeps it that way."

>From what I understand WSM-AM is hemorrhaging money, and has been for
years. WLS-AM isn't. I think their management at LS might have a
pretty decent idea of how to still make money with their AM, unlike
WSM-AM. Although I would LOVE to have WLS-AM go back to music at
night, but the truth is that radio is a business, and keeping a
consistent format for talk listeners to be able to rely on is
paramount to the station's current successes. I work for a non-comm
NPR station that over a decade ago decided to not try to cater to both
classical AND talk audiences. We agreed with another station in the
market to go talk with our station and they would be classical 24/7.
Ratings increased and support revenues increased pretty quickly, and
continue to be good for both stations. In the modern world variety
radio just isn't where it's at.
