Jerry,
Back in the 70's, WHIN-AM was Top 40. Gallatin is in the null of WLAC, so in Gallatin, they fade some, due to WLAC protects a station in Boston, I think. I couldn't get WMAK or WVOL at night, so WLS boomed in to Gallatin like a local. Man, I would listen to John "Records" Landecker and the Boggie Checks. They were funny! Bear in mind, I'm younger than you, I turn 46 in May, and WLS played Kiss, Peter Frampton, ZZ Top, and some of the hard rock mixed in with the bubble gum stuff of the 70's back then. WLS kicked butt and took names.
I can still hear them in Gallatin very well at night. No problems, even with the cheapie, Dolllar Store radios, they still boom in to Gallatin. They don't get into Nashville well at night anymore because Bill Barry got permission to let Lebanon's AM-900 run off of the WCRT-AM (was WAMB) tower in Donelson at night with about 130 watts. That signal doesn't make it to Gallatin.

When I was a teenager, I listened to WLS at night in Southern Tennessee. Picked
it up on the typical 6 transistor radio of the time. But now, I've tried tuning
in WLS at night. It's usually totally buried in background noise. Since I doubt
WLS transmits with any less power than it did in the '60's,
