[BC] Hanging, locking computers

One thing I discovered with a Networked 7050HP was that several users were
trying to shove their jobs through as 'Administrators' - NOT computer
admins, but printer admins. That's great. Everybody's job is the most
important.
Another big issue was too many users trying to SHARE the same printer.
(Vista did it For you, want it or not, you gotta turn it OFF manually.)
Our printer was exhibiting the same symptoms as you describe.
Ou OLD HP printer has it's own server; but the users kept trying to share
the printer! uhhh, why?
Creating multiple paths to the printer by sharing it all over the place
means there's no single straight path from any machine but one to the
printer.
Duh. don't share it. The printer has a print server, why do we need
somebody's PC somewhere to share it...??
Second problem... set the stuff to print after last page is spooled, rather
than printing immediately. oN EACH pc. Let the printer handle the queue.
third... I used a fixed IP for the thing.
Last - go ahead and use the HP printer discovery software, and create a port
etc. instead of letting windows try to do it.
Doing that fixed ALL of the weird problems, slow prints, etc. and things
print fine now, about a dozen machines looking at the same printer no
problems. (Next task is to put it on a server...)
