Sid,

I have the same policy about this as you do. The downloaded driver set from 
HP helped, but it did not fix the problem. Hang time dropped fro two 
minutes down to a minute and 15 sec. I also downloaded a printer test utility from 
HP that reported that my printer is OK; no surprise there because it's fast 
when the local computer prints to it (the OfficeJet 7000). HP also has a 
web utility where they peek at your system to see if the HP drivers are up to 
date. No problems found there either. 

This is so typical of Hp's crap. Not sure if I'll just use it off network, 
or take the stupid thing back. It prints 11 X 17, so I could simply send the 
documents to be printed to that computer, and print them locally. That 
defeats the purpose of having a network. Sigh :-(
