I agree, CKLW undoubtedly holds the legendary title in this category,
although today their Detroit ratings are embarrassingly low, having
been surpassed by 500 watt CKWW 580 and a couple of Windsor FM
stations.

I would say CFZM 740 in Toronto now holds the title for a Canadian AM,
although CKEY-FM in Fort Erie, Ontario (which the FCC database never
heard of) ranks higher in the Buffalo Arbitron.

In listening to various Canadian AM stations, I seem to notice a lot
more first-adjacent "splatter" than is typical on either side of US
stations.  Did Canada ever adopt or even consider a low-pass
filtering/pre-emphasis standard like our NRSC curve?
