I believe it is standard practice for Canadian AMs to follow the NRSC 
recommendations.  Perhaps the splatter is more noticeable simply because it 
has become increasingly less common for US stations to do so... e.g., Clear 
Channel decreed some years ago that all of their AM stations would reduce 
audio bandwidth to 5 kHz, even if not running IBOC.
