[BC] KDND Verdict

Dude, I am not trying to change your mind. Whether or not we're on
the same page on any given thing, I've got a piece of paper here
somewhere that says "Honorable Discharge" from where I was engaging in
a small way in the idealism of protecting the rights of Americans to
believe and say whatever they wish.

I do not have to agree with you, but I will actively protect your
right to say the most foolish thing you can think of to say because I
still believe that if one of us is silenced then all of us will
eventually be.

Most of my comments have gone to the deeper issues here, and I've
commented on how folks seem to be distributed along a continuum
between personal responsibility on one end and total abdication of
personal responsibility on the other.

I would never try to tell you how you should think or feel about this
or anything. Everybody is entitled to their own views. On the other
hand, like far left wing icon D.P. Moynihan pointed out many years
ago, we are entitled to our own views, but not our own facts.

The fact is, sad as it is on the face of it and no disrespect
intented, a "young mother" was ultimately stupid and ended up paying
the ultimate price. She could have walked away at any time if she
wished to do so, and in fact the game was set up to encourage her to
walk away. She opted to stay, and paid the price for it. These are
the facts of the case and I don't remember that they were contested.

I understand the need to call me names, and if it helps, please feel
free to go ahead. Facts are indeed stubborn things, almost as
stubborn as the determined idiocy of folks like this poor "young
mother". When you're operating out of sheer emotion and anger at how
unfair everything is, sometimes it helps to let it all out. Go ahead.

This decision *will* be overturned, you know. It's not an uncommon
occurrence these days for there to be some ridiculous award, a big
hoopla, and then the case is challenged and languishes in the
appellate process until everybody involved dies or goes away. Perhaps
her grandchildren will settle this some twenty years hence.

Who knows, maybe they'll get enough to buy another game console. We
can but hope.
