That is such a common story, and in this case it may be compounded by
the fact that the station this thread concerns has a skirt fed
folded unipole. I have nothing against folded unipoles, per se,
but it is one of the easiest antennas to feed incorrectly or set up
inefficiently in a way that wastes huge amounts of power in a way
that is not easily discovered unless you know where and how to look.
