Hello Tom:
Lotsof good points. To err on the safe side is good policy. Blowing up every
damned thing that you don't know what it is, is stupid.
Not sure what your point is about kids being used to conceal contraband. Do
we then assume every kid has contraband because it's better to err on the safe
side? Search all of them when they're in public? That will go over big. Better
be safe than sorry.
So let's also outlaw garage door openers then. Better safe than sorry.
They'll just use some other form of radio, like a cell phone for example. So let's
outlaw those too because they also contribute to car accidents.
I'm all for checking things out; that's the same kind of thinking as the idea
that the only dumb question is the one not asked.
But blowing something up and/or accusing me of being a bomb maker (until I
can prove my innocence) because I built an antenna loading coil in capped PVC
pipe? Give me a break.
9/11 did not happen because of strange looking ham antennas. I personally
would rather live with some risk with the payback of getting more freedom, rather
than live in a society scared of its own shadow.
Thank God that most cops I know of are scared feces-less of radio broadcast
transmitters and the like. I had the need to call 911 to have a cop come to my
transmitter site. He walked in looking scared out of his wits. Those first run
FM-25k blowers sound mighty intimidating. Let's hope that the cops remain
intimidated at a healthy level when it comes to our broadcast systems.
