What ???
Where in this pathetic story were the facts leaked out about Obama blowing up
ham stuff? The police organizations have had these nonsensical
rules/policies about erring on the side of safety, long before Obama's time.
There are good arguments for both sides of this attitude.
It is crossing the line when we have to make sure our radio communications
equipmentcannot look like an kind of a bomb to a cop with a single igit IQ.
I remember the BTA-50 H had these big, honking fixed vacuum caps that looked
like a copper pipe inside of a fish bowl. In today's chickenshit police
environment, it would be confiscated or destroyed because to an idiot, it probably
does look like a bomb.
Can't et that 50 kW transmitter back onthe air because you were pulled over
for speeding and the cop saw that big capacitor and thought you were in a hurry
to blow something up, rather than fixing your transmitter.
Clearly there has to be some middle ground here. If they are going to be that
paranoid about stuff they don't understand (if they don't know what it is,
then it's a bomb), then attend some ham clubs or hamfests to discover that there
is more to the world than just the police station. Hell, the flat-footers
might actually learn something.
I am sure the safe than sorry detonation of the ham antenna probably scared
the living stuffings out ofsome of the nearby people, and for what? That's
serving and protecting, is it?
