And THAT is why you have that low opinion of AudioVault, my friend. ;)<<

Further, that kind of install is going to wreak havoc with virtually any LAN-based automation system. There is just NO substitute for doing it right. If you expect such a system to work flawlessly (and we have an AudioVault system consisting of over 40 PCs, running all non-live audio elements on eight radio stations, which hardly gives us any trouble at all), the LAN it runs on must be wired correctly, using proper connectors, cabling and construction techniques, and should ideally be certified by a LAN professional. I've lost count of the number of times I've seen people complain about LAN-based automation systems, only to find out that the underlying infrastructure was wired by someone's uncle who used to work for a telco or was wired using CAT3 or the connectors were pushed onto the wires but not crimped, etc., etc., etc.

No broadcast engineer worth his/her salt would wire audio using zip-cord (though, as we all know, many have tried) nor would they wire video using 300-ohm twinlead antenna wire, and expect either scheme to work as it should. The same type of attention must be paid when wiring a LAN. Somehow it always seems to hang together once you get the basics right.
