One thing I know for sure... those PL connectors don't tolerate weather all
that well.
And there are varying grades... you can get true silver plated, or, chromed
whatever stuff from RS.  Same idea for the insulator in the center of them.
Seems if the connection is anything less than perfect - be it from dirt, or
from just cheapo connectors - the heat at the connectors might be a bigger
issue than the coax itself.  I tried wrapping them in a variety of
weatherproofing, but, sometimes they seem worse for that as far as getting
corroded when I used the red silicone wrap.  the gluey black stuff not so
much...
