[BC] EAS in SoCal

When I worked for Paul Gregg at Sparta/Cetec, we obtained a
contract for a number of stations in Columbia. As part of that
contract, several Columbian Engineers came to the US to
learn about the transmitters. They all spoke English, the
United States language of commerce. However, being
somewhat of an experimenter and rather bold, I tried
to learn a bit of Spanish as well. Of course, the first
thing you learn are the swear words!
By the time the the Engineers were to leave (a few weeks), I
had acquired some skills in conversational Spanish, enough
to carry on a simple conversation.
Later, I spent a month in Columbia, working with these
same Engineers. By the time I had encountered
the "total immersion" of living and working in Columbia,
I had become conversant in Spanish. Paul Gregg remains
conversant to this day. Basically, it shows that it only takes
a month for a person of average intelligence to become
conversant in a simple language like Spanish or French.
German and English are a bit harder because of all the
exceptions. Perhaps it would take two months.
If the Hispanics want to be treated equal, they have no excuses,
learn English. The idea that there are third and forth generation
Hispanics, with no English skills in unconscionable. Furthermore,
what most Hispanics speak is not even Spanish. It is Mexican
street lingo, like 'rap.' The lack of such skills can be laid at
the feet of the "bilingual teachers" who are propagating the
failure to communicate using English to further their agenda
(to remain employed as Spanish teachers).
