[BC] Why an older transmitter may be a good choice

One of my clients over in Lancaster County, PA just dismantled their
original tower, which had a 50-year old 4-bay RCA horizontal loop
antenna mounted on the top. It had been licensed as an aux and was
still functional, but not in very good condition. We had it on the
air for a few hours back in July while the HD transmitter was being
installed.

I'm glad they had the foresight to take down that old tower before it
fell down; one of the legs was nearly rusted through.

Of course, there are many old abandoned FM antennas still attached to
AM towers because nobody wants to upset the tuning (or eliminate the
top loading) by removing them, nor spend the money. I believe the
original WRCP-FM antenna is still hanging on one of 1540 WNWR's towers
in Roxborough, and the old WSNJ-FM antenna is still on the formerly
co-owned AM tower in Bridgeton, NJ.
