[BC] Norton A/V: Designed by the Devil

Never, never try to uninstall Norton A/V. It's a computer killer.
Norton came with the computer--one of these good for 2 months trial deals. I bought Grisoft's AV instead. While both a/v products played well with each other, running both slowed everything way down. So Monday I decided to uninstall the Norton, using the normal windows uninstall routine.
Big mistake. Computer never came back up. Restore disc ignored. Finally bought XP pro and dropped it in as a second OS, (original OLs was XP media edition); which allowed me to rescue recent projects (database of our music library, for one, 900 songs).
Just got my (dial-up) internet back up. System could not find modem. Gee, that's strange, it's just where I left it, in one of the motherboard slots.
(Anyone roaring uproariously at that joke has been outed as a geek. You are warned. You will soon join the staff of M$oft at a re-education camp. When you learn to think like normal people, you will be re-trained for useful employment.)
This Saturday I will haul the box back into the station (where I have dsl), wipe everything out and re-install.
So, the message is clear, Norton A/V cannot be removed by normal means. Just find some way to turn it off, and isolate this dangerous program. (Incidentally, my legal mind smells a nice lawsuit. After all, I never agreed to any EULA that came with this program since it came pre-installed and running out of the box. Class action anyone?)
