The reality is that pay is tied to whatever the market will bear.  As 
long as a GM or owner can find someone who is willing to do everything 
for "sub Taco Bell" wages, they will!

When I was fresh out of school (a long time ago), there was a job 
listing for a 2-way radio repairman in North Dakota.  He had to repair 
radios, be on call 24/7, climb towers up to 300 feet, and all for 
$3.35/hr!  (Minimum wage at that time.)  That ad ran for a loooong 
time...  I don't know if some poor schmo ended up taking the job, or if 
the owner/manager finally "got it"!  If it was the latter, then there 
was nothing for the boss to "get", at least not for a while...


Since so many in our profession are closer to retirement than starting 
out, and since new talent is becoming scarcer, I wonder how this will 
eventually play out in the marketplace....
New technology is making our field shrink anyway; but is it shrinking 
faster than the attrition rate?
