Peter you are quite correct as usual.  The very first Continental 1 kW. AM 
rig  was a Model 314.  This model 314 used four each 4-400-A tubes in parallel 
in the final and were screen grid modulated.  There were 15 or so of these 
manufactured.
 
I would like to find one of these boxes.  Their used to be one in Aiken, S.C. 
 It ran at 500 Watts.
