During the years at Xavier, we bought particular items off eBay. They were discontinued models of equipment for which we had tech manuals and spares. If an item was listed as 'not working', the cost was especially attractive. They were always way used.

I imagine a legal objection would be that items bought on eBay may be of 'questionable' heritage. Psst - wanna buy a Rolex?

Where I work, company Ebay purchases will go to the auditors where the security guards to escort you out of the building will be waiting. Buy new and get the warranty and the job security.
