I completely understand why the manufacturers are doing it this way. 
An external IP bus allows all kinds of accessories to be used with 
the headend and daisy-chained. The controls and the display remains 
with the headend. If I want a plain vanilla radio I can have one. If 
I change my mind I can add an XM tuner, a SIRIUS tuner, and IBUZ 
tuner, a CD changer and an iPod dock to that same vanilla radio.

My system is Pioneer. The only IBUZ tuner I know of is Kenwood's. I 
have a lot of stuff on the Pioneer IP bus. Changing brands would cost 
me a fortune. I imagine they like it that way.
