On my radio there is no option to turn this off it just happens.

I understand that. My point was, why not just include the HD circuitry in
newer receivers so the consumer, at the risk of sounding rather harsh, gets an HD
ready radio whether they like it or not? It seems to me that it would be
better simply to include the circuitry rather than educate the general public
about what HD is and why they should spend money on it. We could then avoid a
marketing nightmare. There already is confusion about what HD radio means. One of
the promoting radio stations is saying "now in High Definition digital radio."
Consumers do not like walking into a store and looking stupid. "I would like
a High Definition digital radio, please" then have the sales person fire back
and say that there is no such thing as High Definition radio, there is either
satellite or HD Radio. People tend to not ask unless they are fairly sure what
they're after.

I was not clear in my original post regarding the listener taking action.
What I was referring to there, is the listener does not have to take any action
as far as buying a radio if the HD circuitry is already included in the
receiver, as opposed to physically doing something to his radio to switch it from
analog to digital.
