[BC] "broken" news

It seems the very definition of "breaking" news has been changed so that
it doesn't garner the attention it once did. For example, our CBS
affiliate is on the air with their noon news right now. They are
reporting a automobile accident in a residential neighborhood as
"breaking" news. I mean, they have the freakin' helicopter up over it.
One car hit a light pole and the driver died! How many people is that
actually gonna effect? The people in the neighborhood, that's about it.
So what makes it "breaking" news? Fatal car accidents happen every day.
It's at times laughable at how the three TV stations in Louisville cover
news. The Fox affiliate used to be good at being the lone standout, but
they are slowly beginning to join in the hype and hysteria of the other
three. And don't even get me started on the weather departments that
will run crawls incessantly telling us that the weather isn't bad yet,
but (we hope) it might be soon!

Wall Street has been the death of good radio, consultants have been the
death of good television.
