FAA Information:
7460-1 is the one page form available on line
that determines if a structure/tower is
compatible with FAA Federal Air Regulations (FAR)
Part 77 Air Space (i.e., that space above 200 feet, or near active airport(s).

Your tower status, from an FAA point of view,
will be determined by the planning section of the
FAA Airports District Office (ADO) that covers
Nashville Metropolitan Airport (FAA Symbol BNA)
and other area airports, if any.
Although I have fairly complete knowledge of the
FAA Eastern Region and the NY ADO, as I have
managed an airport for 12 years, been a pilot for
40 years, and college broadcast volunteer/advisor
for 46 years, I am pulling the Nashville data
from the FAA website. As I deal with towers,
etc., every week from air space point of view in
New York State, I am assuming, perhaps
incorrectly so, that the FAA Southern Region acts
the same as the Eastern Region covering New York - Virginia.
The FAA Region in charge of Nashville, TN, is the
Southern Region. The FAA Southern Region ADO in
charge of Nashville (BNA) is FAA ADO Memphis,
TN. The inspector in charge of BNA is ROGERS and
the inspector last inspected BNA on, or about, December 5, 2006.
FAA Southern Region Data:
Doug Murphy is the Regional Administrator for
FAA's Southern Region that includes the states of
Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi,
North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Puerto
Rico and the Virgin Islands. He is the FAA
Administrator's principal representative and
Senior Executive for this region, its 6,000+
employees, and $1 billion operating budget with
headquarters located in College Park, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta.

If you decide you need a Professional Engineer
(PE) to assist you in exactly locating your
tower, as built, although the FCC information you
have is probably 100% accurate, every airport
receiving FAA financial assistance, including
BNA, is REQUIRED to have a consulting engineering
firm on retainer. The airport can give you that
contact information, or the FAA ADO (Memphis) can
give it to you. Airport consultants are not
inexpensive, but they can speed paperwork through the FAA system.
Notes:
FSDO: FAA Operations, safety, inspections of
pilots/aircraft, etc., is administered by the FAA
FSDO (Flight Standards District Office). These
fine folks are first responders to accidents,
complaints, etc. Other than to give you contact
information about ADOs/Southern Region the FSDOs
do not normally take the lead on 7460-1 Air Space Management.
Contact a FSDO for:
? Low-flying aircrraft
? Accident reportiing
? Aircraft modificcations and permits
? Certification annd surveillance of
air operators, air agencies, and airmen
? Enforcement and investigation
? Aviation safety education and training

FAA Flight Service Station (FSS) (1-800-WX-BRIEF)
is presently an independent contractor that
provides real time weather and safety information
to pilots/airlines in reference to flight plans,
etc. The FAA Flight Service Station serving BNA
can file a NOTAM (Notice to Airman) for you if
there is a tower safety issue. But ... again the
FSS is not primarily concerned with 7460-1 Air Space Management.
The AFSS for Nashville, TN, is at BNA, Nashville Metropolitan Airport.
SUMMARY:
To register with FAA (Charts, etc.)
Tower/Structure owners must enter the FAA system
with a 7460-1 Form. Determinations, by law
(statute), MUST be responded to by the FAA in writing within 60 days.
The FAA Southern Region, Memphis ADO, (probably
ROGERS at ADO) is responsible for advising you on
towers, air space planning (FAA FAR Part 77).
I hope the above brings together the fine
information posted so far on this list. The
specific phone/fax FAA ADO information above
along with a rough pencil FAA Form 7460-1 which
you can fax to ADO should give you a good start.
