Where does the discrete system stand now that XM has chosen a
matrixed system? It's a shame that the YouTube file had so much hum
on it because it was a perfect example of what grunge processing can
do to the musicality of music. How does a matrixed system derive
accurate information if the audio is a solid block with no dynamic
range? A discrete system could handle it and give us 6 channels of
grunge with the surround field still intact. My main concern, since I
don't propose to buy a surround system for my car, is what it'll do
with XM's stereo signal, if anything.

I have an early JVC DVD-Audio player that requires a bass management
system. I used the Outlaw ICBM-1. By the time I moved no one was
carrying DVD-A discs, so I didn't bother to reinstall it. I can't
even find DVD discs that use DTS or Dolby Digital. I've checked every
store I regularly visit and none carries a DVD-A player. On my last
visit to Virgin in Times Square (they claim to carry everything in
print) I found only two small free-standing displays and nearly all
the DVD-A discs had disappeared in favor of DTS and Dolby. It's
downstairs, way in the back. I haven't been there in a while and
don't know if they even carry those, anymore.

Since satellite already has a stranglehold on factory-installed
systems I wonder if they'll use the Bose-type synthesized sound
instead of 6 separate speakers.
