[BC] Belt tightening

Tom, you would make a superb Marine! You already know the phrase they use when
they're being smacked: "Thank you, SIR, may I have another!"
Actually, I thanked my Manager when he laid off the 20 hour per week contract
engineer we inherited when we bought his three stations. After all, running
seven stations with a staff of two engineers in a major market gives me more
time with the equipment, which teaches me more about the equipment. Besides, I
have two small children at home...and I'd MUCH rather be working at the
stations 11 hours a day - I hear a lot less crying that way!

Why would an engineer have to be 'compensated' for
running 8 stations instead of 2? He/she receives a paycheck,
correct? What about the General Manager of those stations, or
the Regional Manager who has even more stations? Are they
posting for 'compensation'?
Perhaps, one day, if I EARNED my way to the Executive level
I could expect compensation commensurate with my abilities.
But for now I must accept what is given me, be thankful for it,
an do my best to support management who gave me the privilege
of working for them. I must respect those who know more than
I, have greater wisdom than I and are generous enough to offer
me the opportunity to serve under their tutelage. This honor is
compensation enough.
If the company buys more stations, yes it is more responsibility
for me. But it is also a greater challenge. A greater opportunity
to prove my worth, demonstrate my skills and the positive attitude
I owe them for being successful enough to afford to purchase the
additional property(s). I am proud to have slightly contributed to that
success.
