Still illegal. hence why any of the big groups only accept interns that are
getting credit for it- because the credit is considered payment since it has
a fixed value attached to it.

never said anything about that, obviously somebody hanging around after work
to learn whats going is something most people have no problem with.  I know
of a few people who started out as interns hanging banners and through that
method now make a decent amount of extra money doing remotes for stations in
NYC.

Not everything, but it plays a large role in sustaining life.
