         Perhaps ... but perhaps not.

How about: some of the work is done
in return for education? Or practicing the
         things learned.

An person is not an intern if he is doing
work that normally would be paid for just
         so he can "hang around."

If an engineer takes the time and effort
to educate someone, they can "give back"
         a little.

Sure, once someone is taught how to load
material into Prophet, having them do it
free six months later is abuse. Having them
do it for a few weeks is not.

Some stations do abuse interns ... just as they
abuse everything from their staff to their
         FCC authorizations.

Others offer their interns parttime or fulltime
jobs based on their performance AND ATTITUDE.
If the come in the door expecting to be paid
for everything, but my teaching them is free,
they are as bad as abusing stations.

I have had some interns that were great - and
they got hired and paid for future work. I have
had other snotty twenty-somethings who came
in "too good" to get their hands dirty. Others
only wanted the paycheck. (They already knew it all.)
Despite the temptation, I did not refer them to
         our competitors.

Not everything in this world is about money, Bernie
