Has anyone bought just the plate for the Continental 816R-1, that
has the N connector on it? I have one of these at a contract station,
and the tx is in very good shape. But I would like to get rid of the
pair of 4cx250s's. I bought one of the Nautel VS300 just as an
replacement exciter for a 816 with solid state driver. I run it at
around 30 watts, using 100 feet of rg-58 as an attenuator and that
systems plays very well.
I know Continental does the entire IPA replacement, but a VS300
would not be obsoleted f I went this route. I doubt the organization has
money for a new transmitter for a long time.
