Microchip also makes a couple of temperature sensors that are similar to the LM34, but are less expensive and easier to find.  The MCP9701 is typically within +1/-1 1 degree.

The only downside is that the outputs tend to be from near zero to a little over two Volts with ambient room temp at only 1V.

You can get them through Mouser, Digikey and many others.
