n earlier emergency fundraiser helped them move 30 percent toward their
goal of $163,000 to replace the two failing transmitters.

So the 163k is for a pair.

In the meantime, listeners already had a sense of the sound of silence,
as the station was going off the air six to eight times a day. Prior to
that, they operated on 1,000 watts for 14 days after the breakage —
reaching far fewer audience members than their normal 100,000 watts touched.

Currently the stations are running at 85,000 watts, hoping nothing else
happens to the transmitters until the businesses who underwrite them and
the public who listens make the effort to keep them on air.

43k each transmitter? 85k each? 85k is close enough to 100k ERP no
listener will know the difference.

Maybe they have a pair of arc-n-spark FM20k's :) Those are not great but
can be made to run.
