I have to relate my one and only performance as a 'jock'. It was 'Top 40'
1470 WOHO, Pickle Road, Oregon, Ohio, approximately 1960. There was a
contest to nominate 'jock for a day'. I won one of the slots. It was a half
hour with the popular evening personality. There is a pix and story by Ken
R. in the WOHO studio ca. 1973 on page 30 of the August 2, 2006, Radio World.

When I arrived, I was told to go into the record library and choose a
number of '45s - six as I recall. I picked five current favorites and one
'oldie'. The host played just what I'd chosen plus bantered with me until
he got to the 'oldie'. He asked off-air ,"What's this?" It was "String of
Pearls" by Glenn Miller.

He played it with pleasure as I recall. No problem. Perhaps I invented the
'oldies' format??

>Jeff...what a lot of people have forgotten is there were songs that became
>huge hits performed by artists who came from the late 40's and early 50's.
>They were on the charts right along with Elvis, Fats Domino, Chuck Berry
>and on and on. Researchers have forgotten those and relegated them to the
>"don't play" category.
>I get the feeling many in here believe we are at the end of our creative
>road and history cannot repeat itself. I don't and won't buy it.
