In the few instances where I've investigated this, a new laser assy is almost 
as much (or in some cases, *more*) than a whole new unit. It reminds me of 
the time I wanted to get a replacement head for a $99 cassette deck... $80. We 
just replaced the whole blooming deck. Sad.
